Skate-o-rama Update

If you have not been rollerskating at Skatorama logoSkate-o-rama in Nacogdoches for awhile, I would recommend visiting them again now. The renovations by the new owners are completed and the whole place has been completely remodeled and is absolutely fabulous!

Highlights – new carpet (bright and colorful), new ticket booth, new snack bar area (a lot more seating now), new wall around the skate floor, new decorations on the walls, new locker area, everything is just new, New, NEW!

Give roller skating a try for a refreshingly different type of night on the town. It’s cheaper than a movie or a bar, and healthier for you, too. Enjoy!

Skate-o-rama is also available for private parties and other events by arranging in advance.

SESSIONS / FEES

(Please note – all are subject to change, because the schedule may change, depending on other things going on in town. For example, during football season, Friday night is not usually available for skating.)

Old-Fashioned Trick-or-Treat

Enjoy the traditional trick-or-treat experience at the Ghosts of Millard’s crossing event.

DATE: October 31, 2014
TIME: 6-8 p.m.
COST: $5 for adults and $3 for children.

This event is intended for children ages 12 and younger.

Activities include face painting, cupcake walk, hay ride, train ride, music and so much more!

The Ghosts of Millard’s Crossing event is a great way to step back in time and remember the concept of a neighborhood, where children could play on their own safely, because all the adults were keeping an eye out for everyone. At this event, the feeling is much the same, as children & their families can stroll at their own pace throughout the village, stopping off at each house one by one, to hear a “ghost” tell a short story or part of history from their life.

The “ghosts” are simply regular people with white face paint and they are not scary to most children.

The headless horseman comes racing through the town on his horse about every 20 minutes and that can indeed be quite thrilling but perhaps could be a bit alarming to little ones, so be prepared for this, just in case.

At each house or other building, there is candy available, and young children will have a traditional and exciting trick-or-treat night.

This is a really great event and if you have not attended in the past, give it a try.
Highly recommended!

(And, it sure beats the heck out of driving all over town to trick-or-treat at houses where you know people.)

The LEGO group has been around since 1932 and the current style of bricks were introduced in 1958. LEGO is clearly here to stay, and thank goodness for that!

Pet Appreciation Week

jack-the-cat

On September 20, 2014 (Saturday), the Nacogdoches location of Tractor Supply Store will be hosting a full day of fun events and activities for families and pets in honor of their annual Pet Appreciation Week. Pet adoptions will be available, as well as info about pet nutirition, discounts on pet food and other supplies and free items to be given away (while supplies last).

Pet awareness is an important topic for all communities, but especially in Nacogdoches where we have one of the very highest rates of stray cat problems in the entire state and nation, amazingly enough.

There are simply not enough people willing to accept more pets into their homes to meet the great need for adoption at the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter. They also need volunteers to help care for the animals and for people to donate supplies. Find out more about their services here and visit their Facebook page here.

For those who are specifically interested in cats and the local stray cat problems, we have the O’Malley Alley Cat organization with that focus. This is a well-established group that has been helping stray cats locally for many years. Volunteers and donated supplies are always welcome! Visit their main site here.

Just how many unwanted cats are out there? MILLIONS!
