Veterans Fundraiser & Exhibit

Vintage military uniforms and other memorabilia from the collection of Mary Ann Derby, primarily from the era of the Korean conflict, are currently on display at the main offices of the Daily Sentinel, located at 4920 Colonial Drive. The exhibit is on display at the main offices of the Daily Sentinel, so stop by any time for a quick mini-history lesson.

You can also honor your favorite veteran with an entry in the Veterans Day Fundraiser hosted by the Daily Sentinel. Simply provide a photo and fill out the registration form with some basic info about the veterans service and war/conflict, and send the entry with $5 donation to the Daily Sentinel. All proceeds will be donated to the Veterans Resource Center at Stephen F. Austin State University (main site here).

Registration forms will be available at the Daily Sentinel office or in the newspaper.

Cooking Contest for Kids & Teens

The annual “Kids & Teens Cooking Contest” is here again at the Nacogdoches Public Library. Registration forms are available at the Library, so don’t forget to sign up soon.

Contest Date: November 15 (Saturday)

Time: 2:30 – 4:30

Deadline: November 13 (Thursday) is the deadline to submit your Registration form.

Age Groups: 4-8, 9-13, and 14-18

Age groups subject to change, depending on registrations, but these are the approximate age groups expected.




RULES
(Short form only. See Library for complete Rules.)

1. Food item must be prepared with minimal adult assistance. Adults may help with sharp or hot items.
2. All dishes must be prepared and and handled according to food safety procedures to prevent foodborne illness.
3. Label plates, serving utensils, etc. Pick up all food items by 5:30 p.m. Leftovers will be thrown away.
4. You can enter two items, but they must be in different categories.
5. Winners will be announced on Contest Day. Contestants and winners will be photographed.
6. Submit a separate application for each entry.
7. Contestants must arrive with their food item by 2:30 on Contest Day. Judging will begin at 3:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m. Need not be present to win.

I Hate Hamlet

Celebrate the Halloween season with this romantic comedy which is also a hilarious Ghost Story. John Barrymore, a dashing actor famous for his portrayal of Hamlet (in the 1920s) comes back from the beyond to coach a nervous young TV actor slated to play the same part in New York’s Shakespeare in the Park. Barrymore coaches the young actor in the art of acting and the art of seducing a woman. The delightful comedy features fighting, séances, and romance – all with a comic twist. The cast includes Tiffany Gauntt, Justin Hughes, Tim Hogle, Bill Small, LaChanda Maxie and Sarah McMullan.

Lamp-Lite Theatre is located on the west side of Nacogdoches, Texas at the junction of US59 and Old Tyler Road (FM1638). You need to know that US59 is incorporated in the west portion of Loop 224 that surrounds Nacogdoches. Lamp-Lite Theatre is nestled in the trees at the very end of Lamp-Lite Lane. Lamp-Lite Lane intersects Old Tyler Road at the north east quadrant of the junction of US59 and Old Tyler Road. Lamp-Lite Lane is a short black top street that runs between the Grace Baptist Church on the left and a Texas State Forrest Service Compound on the right.

“Games for Seniors” is a monthly event hosted by the Nacogdoches Public Library for senior citizens who want to get together for casual social fun in a relaxed environment with some friendly competition. The Library provides the perfect setting for card games such as spades, or dominoes, or other games you might enjoy.
