Nac Community Band – Fall 2014

Rehearsals for the 2014-2015 Season of the Nacogdoches Community Band will begin on September 7th at 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the SFASU Band Hall.

A membership drive to increase the size of the band is currently underway and nearly all band instruments are
needed for this group. Clarinets, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, you name it, you’re welcome to join this fabulous band group. And don’t worry if you have not played in awhile . . . it will all come back to you, sooner than you think.

Please help us reach new band members by spreading the word in the community – let’s get the word out there! It’s going to be a great year!

You can also help by buying a bumpersticker for your car or bike, or a T-shirt to wear around town, to help other musicians find out about us. Bumperstickers in particular are nicely affordable – get several and share with friends!

For more info, contact band director Jeff at jeffbellgardt@yahoo.com

Cutie and the Boxer

Free movie tonight! “Cutie and the Boxer” is a moving portrait of a couple wrestling with the eternal themes of sacrifice, disappointment and aging, against a background of lives dedicated to art.

Here is the link to the IMDb page about this movie.

The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “Cutie and the Boxer” at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches. Directed by Zachary Heinzerling, “Cutie and the Boxer” is a moving portrait of a couple wrestling with the eternal themes of sacrifice, disappointment and aging, against a background of lives dedicated to art. Heinzerling’s debut documentary is a portrait of art, companionship and the 40-year turbulent love story between Ushio and Noriko Shinohara, two Japanese artists who meet and marry in New York in the early 1970s. This screening is part of the School of Art’s monthly Friday Night Film Series. The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St.

I recommend you plan to arrive a few minutes early, because there is limited parking which is usually filled quickly.

Thank you to Buckley at the Nac Farmer’s Market for this info.
